Opulence Mood Board

The source of inspiration for the collection, “Opulence”, is the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The novel is set in a fictional state modeled after New York in the 1920s.  Minor details from women’s clothing in the 1920s influenced the designs; however, the main source of inspiration was less overt.  The collection “Opulence” is derivative of the primary literary themes and motifs of the Great Gatsby. Amidst the turmoil of the 1920s was this lavish, glamorous –opulent– subculture of old and new wealth. The tragic beauty of the reckless affluence of the characters in this novel truly stimulated the creative process for this collection. The Great Gatsby spotlights the direct relationship of irresponsibility and unrestrained wealth. “Opulence” is based on the transcendence of these themes through the years. The collection is solely black and white to reflect the timeless nature of these themes. The six looks represent ensembles that would be worn to a Gatsby party in 2015.
